| I had a dream last night that as I was leaving the bowling alley, a black bear found its way into the parking lot. I calmly got in my car and waited for it to leave rather than get it riled up because I didn't want it climbing all over my car. As I'm sitting in the driver seat, a crazy redneck in a jacked Ford Super-Duty pickup complete with Confederate flags and naked lady mudflaps screamed out of nowhere and started doing donuts and honking his annoying 'Dukes of Hazard' style horn in order to scare the bear.
The Bear flipped his shit and started panicking. Running in circles, bouncing off cars trying to find a way to the woods. Instead of running away, in a fit of panic he climbed onto a parked motorcycle, like a Harley Davidson style bike and it started and took off with him barely on it. Imagine the Ewok scene from StarWars where an ewok takes off on a speeder bike...perfect comparison of how the black bear was on the bike...
Somehow the bear manages to make it out of the parking lot on the bike, and into the street. Meanwhile ANOTHER bear haphazardly riding on a motorcycle was coming down the street at a high rate of speed with the cops chasing. The first bear and second bear collided in a spazz of hilarity and Harley parts so fierce that I woke myself and Melissa with uncontrollable half asleep laughter so strong that I couldnt stop myself for over a minute. As I was awakening I kept screaming "WHAT ARE THE FUCKING ODDS? HOLY SHIT, WHAT ARE THE FUCKING ODDS?!?!?" I was still in complete disbeleif that I had just witnessed two completely separate events involving black bears riding motorcycles AND that they happened to collide with each other until I realized it was a dream.
I'm just glad the bear didnt have any sharks on him, or I would have been screams, not laughter that Melissa awoke to.

| Everyone knows how I feel about this piece of technology. I think it's an amazing device, but it irritates me how the general populace pisses their pants over it (just like they do for the Olive Garden)
Todays C&H comic nailed how I feel about it.

| Does anyone have a good radio station with a decent morning show to listen to during the morning drive? I received a facebook notification last Friday night that the "Sebastian in the Morning" show on WCCC was inexplicably cancelled without warning due to 'financial constraints'. The news was upsetting to me. It felt like I just lost 5 friends in a car crash. I've listened to these guys almost everyday while getting ready for work, driving to work, and then in my office until 10 AM for the last 3.5 years
My wife, Melissa and I often times had conversation after work that would start like "Oh, did you hear that funny thing Sebastian said today?" or "Hey, Sebastian was being an ass to his guest interview this morning eh?" I enjoyed those brief conversations after a day at work while making dinner. Its a sad trend in the ever continuous downward spiral of terrestrial radio. Its slowly becoming an outmoded form of communication and any live talent employed is easily replaced by computer programs. Fuck, an ipod connected to a 10000 watt radio tower can 'DJ' a radio station. Why pay someone what their worth when you can fire them and let a computer run the station? I suppose my real problem with the whole deal is how WCCC touts themselves as 'non-corporate free radio' that caters to the listener's requests and suggestions. To hide the fact that they shitcanned Sebastian and his crew unjustly, they have created the 'listener line' where people can call in an say what they want to hear in he morning. In addition, they run an on-air bit all day stating that 'Sebastian couldnt hammer out a deal with management' making sound as if Seb was demanding more money, resulting in his firing. They only play the negative callers on the air from the listener line to make it sound as if people are happy that the morning show is gone while ignoring the ones calling in demanding the morning show back. Thanks to facebook, I am 'friends' (one of thousands) with Sebastian himself and had the opportunity to hear the real story directly from him via chat. According to him, he wasnt given a chance to negotiate anything, they (management) just pulled the plug on the show after they signed off last Friday citing they had to cut salaries because of the poor economy. I find it hard to believe as the show was littered with commercials and over the course of 3.5 years, I can recall them gaining many sponsors. I could be way off base. At this point one can only speculate about WCCC's decision without knowing the hard data such as ratings and sponsor income. From the outside looking in, it seems as if they removed their highest rated program. Corporate killed the radio star. If anyone from WCCC finds this...please bring Sebastian and his team back. You made a poor business decision | | |
| I dont know exactly why, but I stopped caring about updating my blog. It started to feel more like work than fun. I haven't felt like notifying the world about my every move so it just sat idle. I apologize to those who still care.
Anyway, I just got back from a week in Virginia Beach so I'll share a little about the trip. Like I've stated in the past, that is my favorite place to go for a relaxing, inexpensive beach vacation. The drive is not too bad...it's about 500 miles which I can traverse in about 11-12 hours of road warrior-esque driving. After a couple hours of being in the driver seat I become like a super-aware auto-pilot robot capable of driving long distances without food, water or rest, which makes long road trips extremely feasible for vacations. This automatically saves us money over flying somewhere as It only cost about $60 in gas to reach our destination this time.
We left the house at about 2:45 AM. I love leaving at an early hour because it feels like we're sneaking away from all of our responsibilities. No house cleaning, no dog, no cat, and most importantly, no job to worry about. Also, for anyone who has ever traversed the mid-Atlantic states via car can attest, getting through CT, NY & NJ when no one is awake is critical, otherwise all your time is wasted fighting traffic.
The car and camper just prior to departure
So after hours of driving down RT13 through Delaware, Maryland and Virginia's North Shore, you arrive at the Cheaspeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel which is 23 miles of nothing but bridge and tunnel over the ocean. Every time I drive this road, Im in complete awe at this piece of human engineering. A six month pregnant Miss Meliss poses w/ the car after about 11 hours of driving. Parked just before the bridge entrance.
One third of the bridge can be seen here. The rest of it drops below the horizon or under water. On average it takes 15 minutes of driving to traverse pending there is no traffic.
For accomodations, we stay at the Holiday Trav-L-Park every time we go to VB. You cant beat $44 per night at any of the hotels in the resort area and get 4 heated pools, nightly live entertainment and free beach parking . Plus its just nicer to cook your own food and sleep on your own sheets rather than a hotel's. I associate staying in a hotel with work, so hotel based vacations arent as relaxing to me as camping out.
Our camp after setting up. Yes, there is running water and electricity.
We spent a ton of time on the beach. The ocean was a refreshing 78 degrees and the waves were huge and plentiful thanks to hurricane Bill being a few hundred miles offshore. We got up at 5 AM one morning to watch the sun come up. It was probably the best thing we did all week and didnt cost a cent.
The boardwalk, pre-sunrise.
Also, we visited the Virginia Zoo, The Norfolk Naval Museum and Battleship Wisconsin, watched a Norfolk Tides minor league baseball game among other obligatory vacation type activities. Overall it was a great week and can honestly say that VB is my favorite place to vacation. There are a lot of inexpensive things to do nearby. The beach isn't trashy like many (think Hampton Beach, NH or Old Orchard, ME) and the weather is perfect for swimming.
